Hi, I'm Kimberly

Campaign Photo 3.jpeg

I am seeking an at-large seat for Portland School Board. I am delighted to call Portland my home for 20+years. I have a son who attends Portland schools, and my husband grew up in Portland where he and his siblings own and operate their family business, Anthony Mancini Inc., founded by my father-in-law in 1966. I grew up in Auburn, graduated from Edward Little High School and received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Southern Maine. I have had the opportunity to live and work in several places in Maine.

I worked for many years for the Maine Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, I served as a Program Coordinator, District Director and lastly  Health Care Services Coordinator. As program coordinator I was responsible for several fundraising programs including

MDA’s Hop-A-Thon, a disability awareness program that seeks to teach children the three core values of Awareness, Acceptance and Assistance to others. As Director I presided over a fundraising budget of several hundred thousand dollars, with primary duties to raise money while managing the necessary expenses needed to raise those funds as well as volunteer management of fundraising programs. My final position with the Association was that of Health Care Services Coordinator, with this position I was given the opportunity to work directly with the families the State of Maine chapter serves by implementing family support through outreach programs and connecting them to the services that the Maine chapter provided. In addition, I presided over education and engagement programs, supported National Awareness month initiatives and local education advocacy efforts.

I did step down from my position when my son was born, only to return to work for Giles Eyecare for the past few years, currently I have been enrolled in online classes. I have been an active volunteer in my son’s elementary classrooms and PTA where I served as the Enrichment Coordinator and managed select fundraisers. In addition, I served as Treasurer for the Portland Little League Board of Directors.

Education over Politics

Throughout my life I have been drawn to public service and volunteerism, I consider it an honor to serve and help the members of my community. I made the decision to run for school board because I believe the school board should be a place where different perspectives on the same issues should be brought together to foster an environment of collaboration amongst all citizens of our community. I pride myself on the ability to work with many different people, personalities, and viewpoints. I am a firm believer in public education and have always maintained all students if given the right tools can succeed. I believe my work experience in the nonprofit sector and my volunteer work within Portland schools and the community makes me an ideal candidate for the Portland Board of Education and I would be honored to have your vote on June14th.
